Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)
People who have sleep apnea can stop breathing for 10-30 seconds up to as many as 400 times during a night. There are two kinds of sleep apnea, Central Apnea, caused from a malfunction in brain signals, and the most common type, Obstructive Sleep Apnea. When you have Obstructive Sleep Apnea, something is blocking the windpipe or passage that brings air into your body. This blockage can be caused by your uvula (the little piece of flesh that hangs down in the back of your throat), your tongue, tonsils, relaxed throat muscles or even fatty tissue in your throat. Doctors estimate that about 12 million Americans have Sleep Apnea. It can affect anyone at any age but is more common in men and people who are over 40. People with sleep apnea are more likely to have a decreased interest in sex, more traffic accidents, and are at a higher risk of stroke and heart disease. Your doctor can diagnosis Sleep Apnea by asking you to go to a Sleep Center for apnea testing. A machine called CPAP (continuous positive air pressure) may be prescribed for the treatment of Sleep Apnea.

Our trained professional staff including licensed Respiratory Therapists will deliver and instruct you on the use of your CPAP. We will make sure your masks and other supplies used will be comfortable and right for you.
